Ethiopia

This park is a birds paradise with over 400 birds recorded. It was made to preserve the water birds in the area though the surrounding areas has a variety of other wildlife like flamingos and pelicans. This park comprises two terminal lakes; Lakes Shalla and Abijata. Their beaches are unstable and saline Rain falls here between March and September and temperatures can be quite high; up to 45 degrees at the hottest.
In this town there is also the Wendo Genet Resort hotel that gives an excellent view of the rift valley. This is an old hotel set in the midst gardens of citrus, palm and pine. It provides an opportunity to bathe in the natural hot springs only a few meters from a cold, clear rushing mountain stream. Walks up the surrounding forests give a spectacular view and a change to observe the abundant bird life, as well as black and white Colobus monkeys.

This wooded and grassland is about 70 kilometers from Shashemene a town that is close to the Chitu entrance of the abijata-shalla park. This sanctuary sits on a small hill and was made to preserve the endemic species of hartebeest. Currently there is over 2000 of them in this area.Though small it is worth a visit. Other wildlife found here are bohor reedbuck , Oribi Warthog and a good variety of birds.
is park gets its name from Awash river (or vice versa) which runs north into a gigantic gorge to the left of the park and leaves on towards the Afar region after the park. The gorge has spectacular waterfalls and rafting is possible. There is a hot spring on the border of the park and fantale crater lies in its middle. It is generally dry and hot getting to temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius in the day. In the evening it is cooler.
This park is in one of the most spectacular landscapes in the world. Erosion has caused jagged mountain peaks, deep valleys and sharp precipices. The park is home of some of the world's threatened species of animal plant and bird life like Gelada baboon, the Simien fox and the Walia ibex, a goat that are only found in Ethiopia and are endemic to the country. This spectacular landscape rivals Colorado’s Grand Canyon. There are over 20 large mammals and 130 bird species found here.
