Travel, Tours and Accommodation in Ghana

The Oil City

Of a truth, it is best seen than just told; it is best felt than whispered; it is best touched than imagined; such is the Oil City. Over 200km drive from the Nation’s capital, Accra is the Oil City. Ghana can boast of her Capital City, her Garden City (Kumasi) and right now, so much more; her Oil City, very much known as Takoradi. It wasn’t a lie when someone iterated that it is wrong to say, “The best comes from the West” but rather it should be said, “The best is in the West”. Ghana, once the Gold Coast could only boast over the decades about her rich gold laden rocks, sweet cocoa, diamond, shea butter and Timber just to mention a few; but now, the story has changed. The pens and notebooks of historians are writing and modifying joyously the history of the country. Oil is now buried beneath the bed of our deep waters and where can we find it; the Western Region of the country. The only region not just with a capital (Sekondi), but with a Twin City (Sekondi – Takoradi) and an Oil City, Takoradi for sure. We thought, that the gold, cocoa and timber we had in the region were enough, little did we know that very soon, they would all be spiced up with the desire of every country; oil.

The city can boast of one of the two great ports in the country built by one of Africa’s most powerful and influential past leaders; Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Before I forget, Dr Nkrumah was from the Western Region. The calm and serenity in the city is something that leaves so much to be desired. Imagine after a hard day’s work as an investor and you want calmness in your neighborhood so you could rest, Takoradi with its calm and serene suburbs is the place to be. Walking through town, you can literally feel the telepathy, cohesion and love with which the people communicate and transact their business. Though filled with so many tribes but mostly Fante, you can actually caress the welcomeliness and the rich hospitality of the Ghanaian. It is the feeling said to be home away from home. The sense of protection is totally insurmountable; the weather is unique and you can breathe freedom in its truest sense.

The hotels, restaurants, pubs and beaches of the city tickles the heart and brings a refreshing sense of belonging. Imagine looking through your hotel window watching the beautiful morning sun rise from the horizon of the Atlantic Ocean with its magnificent rays that pierces the sky; with birds chirping and proudly beating their feathers to greet the morning. Wow! It is such a wonder and the Oil City is truly a wonderful place to be.
