According to Economy watch, Ghana is the world's fastest growing economy in 2011. It was initially called the Gold Coast Crown Colony by the British from whom it was the first Sub-Saharan country to get independence in 1957.  It still has some of the world's largest deposits of Gold. The name Ghana means Warrior King and it is derived from the old various kingdoms the region occupied prior colonialism.  It has the worlds largest artificial lake, lake Volta and is the world's second largest producer of cocoa.

Ghana has more than 100 ethnic groups.  The most populous ethnic group being the Akan. being the majority the influence the arts, food and culture of Ghana. Ghanians are warm people, about 70% are Christians with the rest being Muslim and of traditional African religions.  The official language is English but most Ghanians also speak one other ethnic language.

The Weather

Ghana has a warm climate as it is located slightly North of the equator and in the Gulf of Guinea. As with most of Africa, there are two main seasons the wet and dry seasons. The gets its rain between March and November while in the south the rains are between April to mid-November.

The topography of the region varies immensely from the coast which is sandy and dry backed by grass and shrub-land with rivers.  This gives way to the green high plains.  The south west and south areas are ever green forested plateau with various trees.

Investment Opportunities

Ghana is the worlds second largest producer of cocoa, it also produces oil, timber, electricity, diamond, bauxite, and manganese and is the worlds fastest growing economy at over 20% growth rate.  It is a member of various regional economic and political agreements.  This include membership in the Commonwealth, African Union, SAPC, ECEAS, trade and an associate member of la Francophone. Investment opportunities are mainly in Agricultural processing, farming and mining. Ghana remains one of the most economically sound countries in Africa.
