Being on the shores of Lake Victoria, Kampala’s well wooded outskirts are habitat to a variety of birds. It provides your best chance of viewing the Bat Hawk and African Hobby. On the highway towards Uganda, is Mabira Forest. One needs between 1-2 days to properly explore this forest. It is habitat to some bid species you may not see anywhere else in the country. Birds here include the Superb Sunbirds, Blue Throated Brown, Green Throated and Forest Robin, Joyful Greenbul, Leaflove, Squared-tailed Drongo, Nahan’s Francolin, Forest Wood-hoopoe, Pied Hornbill, Grey long-bill, Tit- Hylia, Capuchin Babbler, Sooty Boubou, Green tailed Bristlebill, Cassin’s Hawk Eagle and Weyn’s Weaver.
The Botanical Gardens at Entebbe and close to Kampala are habitat to the Great Blue and Ross’s Turacos, Klaa’s, Dieerik Cuckoos, Woodland Kingfisher, Black and white Casqued Hornbill, African and Fish Eagle.
At Mpanga Forest which is approximately 37km frm the roundabout in Natete along Masaka Road you will be able to see a number of forest birds.
